How to make a receipt

  1. Enter the amount. It’s written in words automatically.
  2. Tap how you were paid. For UPI or bank transfer add the transaction ID; for a cheque add the number, bank and date.
  3. Type who paid. Past customers from your invoices are suggested as you type.
  4. Download, print, email or share. Next receipt moves to the next number for you.

Why give receipts?

A receipt is the customer’s proof that they paid, and your record of who paid what, when and how. It ends disputes like “I already paid that”, it matters for cash payments that leave no bank trail, and it keeps your books clean when one payment covers several invoices.

Frequently asked questions

What should a payment receipt include?

Receipt number and date, who paid, the amount in figures and words, how it was paid (cash, UPI, cheque with number, bank transfer with UTR), what it was for (invoice number or purpose), and the signature of the person receiving it.

Is a payment receipt the same as a GST receipt voucher?

No. This is a payment receipt, the acknowledgement you give when an invoice is paid. If you receive an advance before supplying goods or services, GST rules call for a receipt voucher with the tax details. Ask your accountant whether that applies to you.

Can I record part payments?

Yes. Enter the amount received and fill “Balance still due” so the customer sees what is left.

Do receipts need a revenue stamp?

Under the Indian Stamp Act, a receipt for more than ₹5,000 generally needs a ₹1 revenue stamp, signed across. Exemptions and state rules vary, so check with your accountant if you issue large receipts.
